Hockey Success

Prep 7 competed in the Belfast area tournament of the Primary Schools hockey cup. Prep played 6 matches in their section with convincing wins in all. We won the semi-final against Gilnahirk to qualify for the final against Penrhyn. At the end of full time it was 1:1 and no goals were scored during extra time so penalty runs had to be taken. Molly Young, Annie Irvine and Aimee Hilman stepped up to take these in what proved to be a very tense few moments.  At the end of this the score was 2:2 so next stage was sudden death.  Our captain Aimee Hilman agreed to take the first run and with skill and precision took the ball around the keeper to place a beautiful winning goal in the back corner and allow celebrations to begin.  Player of the tournament went to Annie Irvine.

At the NI Schools hockey finals held at Stormont on 18th April, the Prep team finished second in their section and progressed through to the cup.  We met Penrhyn once again (the same team we had played in the Belfast finals) and won 2-0!  We then met a team called Armstrong from Armagh, sadly we lost 0-1.  Prep progressed to the quarter final stage and Armstrong went on to win the tournament.  This is a great achievement from the girls who trained and played well together all year.  Well done girls!
