Arts & Minds Competition

Well done to Billi Henry, Prep 7, who was a winner in the NASUWT Arts and Minds Competition 2014 for her poem entitled ’My Friend Songa’.  Billi, her parents and Mrs Boyd attended a prestigious Awards Ceremony on 9th October held in the Private Rooms, Buckingham Gate, London.

Arts & Minds is an annual, UK-wide competition aimed at promoting race equality and diversity in schools. Children and young people from primary, secondary and special schools are judged in two categories: art and creative writing.  Thousands of entries were received and after a rigorous judging process 12 entries were selected.  Billi was the only finalist representing Northern Ireland. TV presenter Gok Wan chose the overall winner from the 12 entries. This year a group of secondary school pupils won this prize with their captivating photograph entitled, ‘What’s The Problem?’

Billi won a travel and expenses paid trip to London, overnight accommodation at a top London hotel, travel and expenses for her parents and Mrs Boyd, a visit to the London Eye, £350 for Victoria College Preparatory Department and £50 worth of Amazon vouchers.

Congratulations Billi - what a great achievement!
